Washington State's DUI Laws and Penalties

Washington State's DUI laws and penalties are among the most severe and punishing in the nation.  This is particularly true if this your second or greater drunk driving arrest within the last seven years.  In many ways, Washington's driving under the influence of intoxicants laws are unfair and unforgiving.  More importantly, however, judge have absolutely no discretion when sentencing a person for a DUI conviction in Seattle or anywhere in WA State.

Even first time DUI offender's will go to jail and have their license suspended for minimum of 90 days.
Even if this is your very first Seattle or Washington State DUI offense and you have absolutely no prior criminal history, a drunk driving conviction mandates that you go to jail for at least 24 or 48 hours and that the court impose a mandatory driver's license suspension of at least 90 days. You will also be required to undergo a drug or alcohol evaluation and follow all treatment recommendations.

Under Washington State's DUI laws, a drunk driving conviction will also require you to attend a victim impact panel and have an ignition interlock device ("blow and go") installed into any non-work vehicle that you drive for a period of at least one year from the date that your driving privileges are eligible for reinstatement.  In addition, you will face steep fines, and, in nearly all cases, be placed on probation for a period of five years.
